Aventra’s carbon footprint 2025: A clearer view of where our emissions come from

image-1232

In 2026, we calculated our carbon footprint based on our 2025 operational data. The assessment covers emissions across our value chain and follows the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, giving us a consistent framework for understanding where our emissions come from.

Our total fossil greenhouse gas emissions in 2025 were 535.66 tCO₂e. The results give us a more detailed picture of our climate impact and, importantly, show which parts of our value chain account for the largest share.

The scope of the calculation was also expanded compared with the previous year. Investments were included in the calculation for the first time in 2025, accounting for 68.70 tCO₂e. This means the total footprint is not directly comparable with the 2024 figure.

The big picture: 535.66 tCO₂e

The results show that our emissions are strongly concentrated in the value chain:

86.0% came from upstream activities, 13.1% from downstream activities, while Scope 2 emissions accounted for less than 1% of the total.

Key figures for 2025

Total emissions

535.66 tCO₂e

Upstream

86.0%

Downstream

13.1%

Scope 2

<1%

The largest individual source was purchased goods and services, accounting for 434.90 tCO₂e, or 81.2% of total fossil GHG emissions. Investments, included in our calculation for the first time, were the second-largest category at 68.70 tCO₂e, or 12.8%.

Our own operations are only one part of the picture

Scope 2 emissions from purchased electricity and heating totalled 4.43 tCO₂e using the market-based method. By comparison, upstream emissions totalled 460.85 tCO₂e and downstream emissions 70.38 tCO₂e.

This highlights an important point: understanding our climate impact means looking beyond our own day-to-day operations and considering the wider value chain around our business.

The report also covers categories such as business travel, employee commuting, transportation, waste, the use and end-of-life treatment of sold products, and investments.

Better data, better understanding

The 2025 assessment provides a more comprehensive view of our emissions, with investments now included in the calculation. Because the scope has expanded, the 2025 total should not be compared directly with the 2024 total. Instead, the broader calculation gives us a stronger foundation for understanding our climate impact and following its development consistently in the future.

Carbon footprint calculations are never just about producing one number. For us, the value lies in understanding what is behind that number: where our emissions come from and which parts of our value chain have the greatest impact.

With a clearer picture of our footprint, we have a stronger foundation for continuing our climate work and tracking progress in the years ahead.

The carbon footprint assessment was conducted as part of Aventra’s broader corporate responsibility efforts. This year, Aventra also published its first corporate responsibility report.
